Driving Day 1 Parnu
Today we picked up our rental car in Parnu, and set off to see the rest of Estonia. We first headed for Pulli, the site of the oldest ancient settlement known to live in Estonia. It is dated at around 8500-9000BC. That makes it only about 11000 years old...We arrived at the spot marked on the map, and found only an old farm. A lady (and her dog Guti) came to meet us and let us look around the farm. She opened the museum for us (it was closed by this time...) and showed us some of the old antiques found on the farm. Ivar spoke with her some more, and it turned out that her husband's grandmother was the sister of Ivar's great great grandfather. She let us camp down the back of the farm, on the river, where the old settlement used to be and her husband even built us a real Estonian 'Lõkke' (campfire). We had a new friend in Guti, who continually brought us an enormous stick to throw. We spent the evening with the farmowners, looking over the family tree and looking at old photographs of distant relatives. They offered to take us the next day to the Juske family farm near their house, where Ivar's great grandfather was born.
