Haapsalu

Haapsalu was our first stop outside of Tallinn. We arrived here late at night, picked up by Ivar's : father's father's sister's daughter's son and his sister. Not joking. We drove through thick fog and despite the absolute flat landscape, could not see as much as we would have liked because of the dark night.

Haapsalu is a beautiful seaside town in the West of Estonia. On our first day here we visited the cemetery where Ivar's family is buried. We also visited the ruins of the house where his grandfather was born, and lived for a number of years. We spent a few hours in the night looking at family trees and ancient photographs - trying to pick out his grandfather in his primary school days.
